Thistle Run 2006

WOW!

What a great day! Looked as if it was going to be horrible, was (in the end) way to long (had to do everything in reverse in the end to take down all the signs) and cost an unknown thing (probably a pheasant) it’s life and Fes a wing mirror……. but over all the Mini Clan did another great Thistle Run!

I have put some pics up on my flickr

So glad to my Fes back!

Fes-issue… the latest: He is back

Well it took some time, some hard decisions and getting talked to like a 12 year old by my parents, but Fes’ steering wheel is back in my hands and he has passed the MOT with a ‘few’ hundred pounds worth of work.

In the end the patch up (take the bodyshell off, fix it up, shot blast it, paint it properly [expensive paint!!!!!] and then rust proof) was going to a minimum of 5.5k and I would be better going for a complete re-shell (circa 6k).

So Fes is back in Glasgow, just in time for the Thistle Run tomorrow, and has been fixed up (fes’d up) enough to pass his MOT: boot floor fixed, sill done, new Yokos on…..

So here is looking forward to TR 2006…. The first TR and that Fes and I will actually get to drive!

An explosive weekend…… Karmicaly challenged

Some folk wouldn’t laugh at this, but hey……

Home from work on Friday night and on to the PC. One of the partitions was filling up with pictures and music so I thought I would move the pics to a seperate partition (good house keeping et al). Half way through the move there was a brief (and I mean brief a second at that) blue screen of death and then nothing…..

A re-boot appeared to get somewhere, at least a windows xp starting screen came up, but then it failed. So at that time I had hope….. My friend Rob offered help the next day so I went to bed with a book….. hey ho, if windows boots partially it can’t be all that bad.

Up on Saturday morning, feeling fine and looking forward to a day wrestling with the beast that is a PC. Washing machine on, I jump in to the shower….. 15 mins later: what is that smell?, a vague burning smell….

this is where we digress to a bit of history. I am nervous about electricity and water, I was once in the shower when the electric unit shorted out, sending ‘blots’ of electricity all around me, blowing the house circuit and turning the water soot black! Now as I was standing in a pool of water I consider myself lucky…..

…. so the first thing I do is jump out of the shower…. all that rubbish about lightening twice…. but I was wrong, it was coming from the hall…. no not the hall, the kitchen.

I open the kitchen door to a horrid grinding sound and smoke coming from the washing machine!

Power off!

hmmmm… dressed and pulling the washing machine out. Lid off and it was all VERY hot under there and the motor looked blackened and exteremely dodgy!

That is when I started to laugh and wonder what I had done to build up some major negative karma that came and kicked me in the ass!

It turns out that the hard disk on the PC had really crunch and gone very wrong, the “windows” that was attempting to boot was an old and dodgy copy on another HD….

Come this evening though, I have a new HD and a new windows XP installation running very sweetly and have just ordered a new washing machine……

As for karma….. I promise I am going to be good! ;o)

Fes-issue… the latest

Arghhhhhh!

Today was another trip to MiniMaster, with the intention of paying for the first 3rd of the Fes repair bill, needless to say that didnt happen…..

I got home to my folks (on the way to Mini Master) and my dad said that the quote was way to expensive…. He suggested that it would make more sense to go for a re-shell rather than a patch up.

So…. I hummed and I hawed, I know another Mini that was re-shelled at a cost of about £7k…. it is a bit more but it is all new. However then I learned that Mini Master basically take the car back to the shell and shot-blast it and fix it all up, so it is almost like a new shell.

So I left it with them again, having not decided anything but hopefully getting a quote to just get him through the MOT and then wait for the winter to do a project restoration on him.

I know that would make more financial sense… saving up more for him and financing less from the bank.

Ah… poor Fes.
